The Smog Check Program is a vehicle emissions inspection program that is an important part of the State's efforts to improve the quality of air we breathe. Smog Check inspections are designed to identify and either repair or retire high-polluting vehicles.
How long does it take to get a smog check?
The average Smog Check takes about 20-30 minutes to complete.
Smog inspections are required unless your vehicle is:
• Gasoline powered 1975 year model or older
• Diesel powered manufactured prior to 1998 or with a Gross Vehicle Weight rating (GVWR) of more than 14,000 lbs
• Natural gas powered with a GVWR rating of more than 14,000 lbs.
